Genre Cognition


The term of Genres which is easy to associate with art and literature. Tranditionally, it is represented poetry, prose and drama. Nowadays, Genres are defined as vague categories with no fixed boundaries. Also, a type of texts used for utterance or any form of art.

In Hong Kong, Gum Siu Man is one of a very famous and traditional caricaturist. He started his comic work from the 80s. Audiences have been attracted by his funny expression of skill and animated characters. Gum using his satire on reflecting society issues. Moreover, his comic has brought lighthearted atmosphere to lots of busy Hong Kong people. However, Gum was also criticized as slapstick comic by part of audiences. It is because of his compositions sometimes contain indecent and abusive languages.


In another way that there are lots of various publication categories which are some traditional literary genres like poem, poetry, prose, novels and drama. These are also types of Genres and Hong Kong Arts Development also give an impetus on those Genres.

Besides that, Genres can also be distinguished in film genre, TV genre, music genre and one rarely use Genre is video game genre such as Puzzle which need to solve puzzles for progress through the levels.
